Improved Issue Tracking: Less Friction, More Precision

When you’re labeling complex multi-sensor data, issue tracking isn’t a luxury.

Yet, our previous functionality was limited. Reviewers could flag problems, but only through a single-line comment field. If the feedback wasn’t crystal clear, annotators wasted valuable time trying to figure out the exact problem.

Unclear comments meant annotators needed clarification. Annotators asked their team lead. The team lead asked the customer’s SPOC. The SPOC had to circle back again. Soon, the efficiency gained through advanced labeling was lost in endless clarification loops.

Until now.

We’ve shipped a major upgrade to issue tracking in Segments.ai. The goal: make issue tracking frictionless, reliable, and precise. Exactly what labeling complex, detailed datasets need.

This update combines two themes:

  1. Smoother, safer workflows — usability improvements that make issue tracking easier and more reliable.
  2. Optional precision tools — new ways to anchor issues to the exact element that needs attention.

Smoother, safer workflows

We cleaned up the basics, so working with issues is faster and less error-prone.

  • Multi-line comment input
Writing and reviewing feedback is easier with a proper text area instead of a cramped single-line field.
  • Edit comments after submission
Fix typos, clarify your point, or update context without starting over.
  • Show and unresolve past issues
Resolved issues no longer disappear. You can choose to show them, review their context, and unresolve if needed.

  • Confirmation before deleting
Avoid accidental deletes with a simple confirmation step.

  • Author-only edit and delete
Only the person who created the issue can modify or remove it. Fewer surprises, clearer ownership.

  • Modernized components
These changes use our new UI system, part of a larger effort to improve consistency across the app.

Two app screens highlight a precision issue about linking a person to a bike in annotated lidar frame data, supporting seamless issue tracking.

More precision when you need it

Sometimes a screenshot and a comment aren’t enough. This update adds optional tools for pointing directly at the problem.

  • Anchor issues to specific elements
Link an issue to a sensor, frame, object, attribute, or even a specific point.

  • See and jump to linked elements
Linked issues display their context clearly and let you navigate directly to what matters.
  • Optional anchoring
You don’t have to change your flow. If you prefer screenshots and freeform comments, that still works exactly as before.
